First launched in 2006, Betsafe were one of the first bookmakers to focus their efforts on online gambling, and as part of the Swedish owned Betsson AB Group, not only do they have time served on their side, they also carry the clout of a highly trusted and respected brand serving millions of punters around the world each and every day.
Known by many in the UK for their sponsorship deals with Manchester City FC, Betsafe have managed to position themselves as one of the superpowers in bookmaking; and their superb customer support, promotional bonuses, and an exhaustive selection of betting markets are just a few of the reasons why the company have become the global force that they are today.
In this post, we’re going to look at some of the main aspects of the Betsafe website, including the site itself, the betting markets offered and the odds and bet types available. Here we go.
Sports Betting at Betsafe
The biggest market at Betsafe by a country mile is the Football. At the time of writing there are over 16,500 events, massively overshadowing their next biggest market which is E-Sports, offering 530 events.
While Football is definitely most prominent at Betsafe, the other markets offered are not be sniffed at either. There is an absolute mountain of choice, including: Golf, Tennis, and Cricket; as well as some of the less conventional markets like: Darts, Formula 1, Motorbikes, Motorsports, Rugby League and Rugby Union.
American sports are also widely covered, with markets existing for Basketball, Baseball, NFL (American Football), and Ice Hockey.
Athletics is another big market at Betsafe and, during the summer months especially, you’ll find a range of events from running races to field events; all of which offer multiple betting options and bet types.
Truth be told, you will be hard pressed not find your desired market at Betsafe, and it’s clear they go the extra mile to make sure they offer a varied and comprehensive range of betting options to players.
Sports-wise, the unusual markets available are quite broad too, and one of the biggest of these is the Mixed Martial Arts section, which at the time of writing contains over 500 events.
Other less common sports betting markets include: Handball, Pool, Snooker, Beach Volleyball, Australian Rules Football, and Boxing; and Betsafe also offer a number of Political/Special bets, which we will look at next.
The Political bets are split into two sections: UK and USA. In the UK, you’ll find events like the ‘next Prime Minister’, the ‘next party to win a general election’, as well as markets on popular current events. For instance, Brexit (the vote on whether or not the UK would leave or stay within the European Union) was a very popular market at the bookie, with a reported £500,000 staked on the referendum in total.
Moving away from politics, Betsafe offer some TV markets as well, although as of right now the only one available is the ‘winner of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards’. You won’t find any of the zany bets that you may find at bookies such as Paddy Power though, and the odds offered here are OK but… well let’s just say they lack imagination.
Still, the selection of TV specials and Political markets does tend to increase seasonally with each new series of Britain’s Got Talent or The Voice for example, so it’s just a case of keeping an eye out for what’s available.
How Good are the Odds?
When it comes to odds in general, Betsafe are known to offer some of the best prices out there, particularly within Football markets; and their ACCA’s are particularly good value thanks to regular price boosts and promotional odds increases, making that market particularly popular with players.
Other events that often feature generous odds include the American markets, plus Golf and Tennis; in fact, the latter is often used in promotional TV and online advertising campaigns as a way of attracting new players to the site.
In Play Betting
While Betsafe don’t offer the largest selection of in-play markets, they do offer most of the markets you would expect to see. Football, Tennis, Cricket and American sports (NFL, NBA, etc) being offered in very healthy numbers indeed.
To access the in-play markets, simply click ‘in-play’ on the home screen, and you will be taken to a new screen where you can narrow down the playing field and hone in on the specific events you are interested in.
The Betsafe Website
Betsafe’s website is fast, sleek, and up to date; definitely one of the better looking sites we’ve come across.
While the loading times aren’t quite as fast as perhaps we would like, they are reliable enough for the majority of punters, but you will notice that the internet connection you have makes a pretty big difference to the sites functionality.
We cover the mobile betting side of things below; but for now, we’ll concentrate on the main site itself.
Easily one of our favourite aspects of the site is how easily you can work your way around it. The navigation menu at the top of each screen is very responsive, simple and uncluttered. Of course, the navigation bar is a standard function found at virtually every online casino, but Betsafe have manged to make theirs more responsive and intuitive.
Betsafe offer thousands of markets each and every day, so it’s ideal for punters who like to bet on a wide range of sports. One thing that the site has been missing until recently, however, is a way in which players can enjoy the betting experience while out and about.
Thankfully, this has now been remedied, and Betsafe offer both an iOS and an Android app, alongside a mobile optimised version of the site to enable anyone to bet whenever it takes their fancy.
Whether you’re lounging around on your sofa at home or on your way to work on the train, the Betsafe app provides you with a wide range of account services to enjoy as and when you want to. It’s completely free to download the app, and you can access the mobile site from almost any mobile phone or tablet device that is capable of accessing the internet.
The process to download the apps are shown below:
Android App – After Google’s announcement that they would no longer allow real money gambling apps on their Google Play store, bookies had to change their approach. In order to download the Betsafe Android app you will need to head to the mobile page (link below), where they provide a direct download link to the APK, enabling you to install the app directly.
iOS App – Available to all iPhone and iPad players, the iOS app can be found in the App Store, and is available free of charge. Once downloaded, you can set up a fingerprint log in known as Touch ID, so no more messing around entering your username and password.
For players using other devices or those who simply don’t want to download an app to their device, Betsafe also operate a mobile optimised website which can be accessed through your mobile’s internet browser as usual.
Something which we liked and which instantly stood out, is phone betting service that Betsafe operate. This is something that was commonplace back in the day but has largely been eradicated due to the popularity of mobile betting. Still, for players unable to use apps or for those who like a touch of nostalgia, the option is there and the Betsafe website provides step by step instructions on how to use the service.
Similar to Corals’ ‘Daily Price Boost’, the ‘Betsafe Boosts’ is a daily promo that enhances the odds on a few select markets; most regularly Football, Horse Racing, and Tennis. You can view the updated odds by clicking the ‘Betsafe Boosts’ tab from the sub-menu which is found beneath the main navigation bar.
On the main navigation bar there is a tab called ‘Apps’. This is a simple feature, but one that we feel is pretty cool none the less. It’s basically a page showcasing all of the apps that are available to download. Each app is accompanied by a set of instructions detailing how to download, install, and use the app; and it’s useful for those in a hurry as it cuts out the hassle of trawling through the site looking for the mobile apps.
This may be something most sites now offer but they are not all necessarily on equal playing fields (no pun intended, honest). The ‘Livescores’ tab on Betsafe’s website is the perfect way to see clear and up to date scores from multiple events. You can even categorise and choose different markets and events to narrow down the selections, and this is yet another way in which Betsafe aim to provide you with the best experience possible while using their site.
Payments & Limits
Betsafe offers a pretty varied and diverse range of bet options, and their minimum bet is set at just £0.10 for all of them, ensuring players on any budget can enjoy the betting options they provide.
Perhaps the biggest downside at Betsafe is the fact that most bets are capped at £5,000, which means that some players – particularly those who like to stake higher amounts – will find themselves cut somewhat short. Daily winnings are capped at £10,000, while weekly earnings are capped at £25,000.
Payouts are processed quickly and securely by the financial team, and you’ll generally find that withdrawals go through in around 24 hours, although at peak times or during non-business hours it can sometimes take up to 2 days.
Standard deposit and withdrawal methods apply, and you’ll be able to use a number of Debit Cards, alongside a small selection of EWallets while using the site.
History & About
Betsafe are a part of the Betsson group, a Swedish online gambling giant, and they operate an online sportsbook, casino, and poker site, which cater to thousands of players each and every day. While they may not command quite the same levels of respect as some of the largest online sportsbooks (Bet 365, Betfair and Betfred for instance), the company has grown rapidly in recent years, and much of this growth can be attributed to the online casino side of the site which has attracted a large number of new players thanks to its lucrative welcome bonuses and promotional offers.
Founded initially by Bill Lindwall and Rolf Lundstrom, Betsafe enjoyed a revenue in 2015 of €402 Million, and with operating costs of just €95 Million, it’s clear the bookies profits margins are very healthy indeed.
Even more impressive, is the fact that they employ a whopping 1,800 staff around the world (we are talking Betsson Group here as a whole), and aside from offering an extremely high-quality experience to punters, they are also helping support the infrastructure of Sweden and Malta thanks to all of the jobs they have created.
Today, the bookie looks set on expanding its operations into more countries around the world, and it’s clear that mobile betting is a key component of their growth strategy, with new mobile apps and websites steadily being developed.
